Identifying Your Monologue

In this blog post you will choose the monologue, aside, or soliloquy that you will perform in class between November 7th and 9th.

First, state who is speaking, in what act and what scene.

Second, state to whom they are speaking.

Third, indicate if the lines are part of a monologue, a soliloquy or an aside.

Finally, explain how you can personally connect with the selection that you have chosen.

Your post should be a minimum of 250 words.

  1. The monologue that I chose to do is act 3 scene 2... (Shall I speak ill of him that is my husband/where is my father and my mother nurse)

Juliet is speaking to her nurse in this scene about how she isn’t going speak ill about Romeo or cry over Tybalts death but cry because Romeo was banished.

This is a monologue and not a soliloquy because she isn’t thinking this she is having a conversation with her nurse and this isn’t an aside because another character hears it.

I can connect with this personally because I can see how she didn’t have any sympathy for her cousin’s death. If my cousin wanted to kill my husband that I was in love with and my husband killed my cousin I wouldn’t care much of his death either. I connected with it more because with Romeo getting banished would make it so much harder than it already was for them to see each other.

I tried to make it 250 words and I’m the first to post!!!!!!!! :)

  2. The line that I will be doing is by Friar: The grey-ey'd morn smiles on the frowning night,
Check'ring the Eastern clouds with streaks of light; And flecked darkness like a drunkard reels From forth day's path and Titan's fiery wheels and Being tasted, slays all senses with the heart. Two such opposed kings encamp them still In man as well as herbs—grace and rude will; And where the worser is predominant, Full soon the canker death eats up that plant.
Friar Laurence is speaking in Act two Scene three.
Friar Laurence is talking to himself, but then Romeo enters then he starts talking to Romeo.
These lines are part of a soliloquy, because he is talking to himself. The definition of soliloquy is an utterance or discourse by a person who is talking to himself or herself or is disregardful of or oblivious to any hearers present or the act of talking while or as if alone.
I can connect with this, because you know how people have their moments and they start talking to themselves like some people in our class period. I know that every person has seen theirs selves talking to themselves. People may say,” Who are you talking to”? ,” You aren’t talking to me”. Or” Why are you talking to yourself, or something in that manner. All I am trying to say is that everyone has seen or have gone though the problem of talking to their self in one point in there life.

The monologue that I choose is Act 2 scene 5 (Even if the news is sad tell me with a smile on your face.)

In this satement Juliet is haveing a conversion with the Nurse.

This is a monolgue bacause Juliet is having a full conversion with the nurse.

I can really contact with this line because everyday someone be sad deep down inside but have a big pretty smile on their face so no one can tell if he/she is sad.

  4. The monologue i'm doing is : Act 3 Scene 2.
( Shall I speak ill of him that is my husband .../ Where is my father and my mother, Nurse?

In this scene Juliet is talking to the Nurse about Romeo.

This is a monologue because Juliet is speaking with the Nurse about Romeo.

I can relate to it because I understand what she is talking about. She is saying she doesn't want to talk bad about him because that's her husband and she doesn't want to harm him or say anything that she will regret. I like line because it's easy to understand what Juliet is trying to say.

  5. Benvolio, Act1, Scene1: Madam, an hour before the worshipped sun…/ And gladly shunned who gladly fled from me.

Benvolio is speaking to Romeo and Tybalt. He talked to Tybalt when they were fighting in fair Verona with there sword then they had to find Romeo and he was talking to Romeo about love.

Act 1 Scene 1 Monologue Because Benvolio talks to Romeo and Tybalt.

I and Benvolio are alike because were both brave and lead and try to keep peace between family. Benvolio has a big family like me and we talk to people about anything.

The monologue i'm doing is :Nurse Act 4 Scene 5
Mistress! What, mistress! Juliet!—Fast, I warrant her, she…/ Some aqua vitae, ho! My lord! My lady.

I choice this monologue because in the play my favorite characters are Tybalt and Nurse. And Tybalt didn't have a monologue so i choice Nurse.

Nurse is yelling for Juliet to wake up but this is when she finds her "dead". I like this monologue because this reminds me of when i was at home and me and my mom were sleep and i woke up to go wake her up and she wasnt even at the house anymore. It brings back some very funny memories and it just makes me laugh but at the same time i have to take it seriously because its not funny when a mother finds her child dead in her bed. So that's why i picked Nurses monolouge.

  7. The monologue i have chosen is act 3 scene 3. (Hold They Desperate Hands../Hod Thy desperate Hands../)

In this scene Friar Lawerence is talking to Romeo about what the prince said about his punishment and what his punishment was because, he went to the prince party to see juliet and he wasnt suppose to be there to see her.

This isnt a soliloquy because, he isnt thinking it he's having a conversation with romeo and it isnt an aside because another character is hearing there conversation.

I personally connect with this scene because, i understand why romeo did what he did and took his chances even though he knew what was going to happen which was get his punishment. If i wanted to see a man that i was happly in love with him i would take my chances and go see him anyway even though i knew what i was getting in trouble. You cant help yourself if your in love and someone tells you, you cant see them you see them anyway... Thats how i personally connect with scene which is Act 3 Scene 3

The soliloquy I chose was act 2 scene 5 Juliet. (The clock struck nine when I did send the Nurse.../ Hast thou met with him?Send thy man away.)

Juliet is actually speaking to herself expressing her thoughts and concerns she has about if Nurse saw Romeo and if she did what did her love say or what she say, and when was Nurse going to get back with this information.

This part in the scene is indeed a soliloquy, becuase she is talking to herself and not to the audience which would have made it an aside. Neither is she speaking to another actor which would have made it a monologue.

I can personally connect with this part, becuase in the past one of my friend s have talked to a boy for me and she was taking way to long to come back and tell me what he said. Just like Juliet I began to wonder what happened, and if it was good our bad. When she finally returned I did exactly what Juliet did and became anxious for her to tell me the information. Lucky, the news was good.

  9. The monologue I selected is act 1 scene 1. My monologue says (rebellious subjects, enemies to peace…/Once more on pain of death).
The Prince is referring his word to Montague, his wife, and Benvolio. He said that because they were being disobedient by letting quarrel new abroach. He was displeased with them.
This is a monologue because he was talking to Montague, his wife, and benvolio. It’s not a soliloquy because he is not thinking it he is saying it. It’s not an aside either because other characters hear him talking.
I connect with this because when you tell people not to do something you expect them to obey. I know everyone is disobedient at times but when someone special asks you to do something you are as a person is supposed to honor their code and do as you are told. I would have been mad to because he trusted them to not start an old fight and they let him down.

  10. The monologue i choose was act2 scene2.The person speaking is Juliet. The person Juliet is talking to is Romeo. She states as follows...
    Juliet:O Romeo,Romeo,where art thou Romeo?/Take all myself.(etc)
I feel i connect to this part of the story because its so romantic how they feel for eachother and how they express their feelings for one another.Although they bother end up dieing at the end its just sweet when you think about why they did it.I also feel a connection to this peice because i had a close friend and he was going with this girl for like 4 years. The girl died last year in a car accident. My friend was so sad, mad, and depressed he said he has no othe reason to live anymore, He killed himself. Their parents buried them together .The funeral was so sad.Thats also a reason i choose this monologue.

  11. The monologue i have chosen is Prine act one, scene one.(relellious subjects enemies to piece.../once more on pain of death)

In this scene the prince is talking to benvolio, montague, tybalt, sampson, and gregory,

These lines a apart of a monologue because the other characters are hearing it and also because thats all we are doing is monologues.

I can connect with the person because i dont like to see families argue that live near each other. they should all become friends.

  12. The line that I will be doing is by Friar Lawerence: The grey-ey'd morn smiles on the frowning night, etc.
Friar Lawerence is speaking in Act two Scene three.
Friar Lawerence is talking to himself then he starts talking to Romeo.
This is a solilquoy because he is talking to hiself and no other characters can hear him. The definition of soliloquy is an utterance or discourse by a person who is talking to himself or herself or is disregardful of or oblivious to any hearers present or the act of talking while or as if alone.
I connect with this because i always talk to myself. However, when i talk to myself i am always heard.

  13. Rodney Evans,
My Monologue is by Benvolio in act 1 scene 1(Madam, an hour before the worshipped sun.../ And gladly shunned who gladly fled from me.)

The person he is speaking to is Lady Montague when she asks where Romeo is at during all the action.

This is a monologue because he is talking to lady Montague and they have a mini conversation, about where Romeo is, and why Romeo has been so sad lately.

I can relate to this because when people ask me where there children are I seen them but I really don't know where they are headed. Then really the parents aren't getting much information from me, so they don't worry about it, and they ask somebody else. That's how I can relate to it.

  14. Friar Lawrence

    ACT 3, SCENE 3

Friar speaks to Romeo & the Nurse.

In this act Romeo’s foolish attempt to end his life is halted by the Nurse and Friar Lawrence give romeo insight on his womanish actions.

    -Monologue

I’ve chosen this monologue because I think that the character (Friar Lawrence) shows how great Friar actually cares for Romeo. After Romeo attempts to kill himself Friar tells Romeo that his acts are of those of a woman, and I can relate to this because I was once in a situation where I had to convince one of my friends that his acts were nothing like his at all.
This monologue connects with me more than the others and in more ways than one, after all what feeling does the monologue have when it is without a connection to its reader. To me if a monologue has no life connection to the reader then the monologue is as good as a never-ending war (it’s useless).
Another way in which this monologue shares a connection with me is that its words are very strongly put together in a way that grasps the reader and listener as if it was the last thing he or she would read.
Shakespeare’s writing is as great as the readers’ say it is, but I believe that this piece of Shakespeare’s writing none the less is one of his best arts yet and I only wish that everyone else that reads this monologue of great quality can connect with his work as I did.

  15. The character I have chosen is Friar lawrence in act2 scene3. (Holy Saint Francis, what a change is here.../Women may fall when there's no strength in men.")

He is talking to romeo about his felling for rosaline and how he should get over it.

This is a monolouge because he talking with romeo which is another person rahter than himself.

I relate to this scene because i have had moments where i couldn't get over someone or something. I also relate because i have talked to someone who has dealt with this kind of problem. I would mostly give good advice or bring them up with positive words and encouragement. This is how I relate to this scene.

  16. my monologue was romeo and he was speaking about how the goose was not there for him for anything and he did nt need the goose and my monlogue was in act 3 secne 2 i can relate to this because sometimes you feel like nobody is there for you and you dont need them when you need them they wasnt there so you dont need them now so what is the use of them and trying to come back and help because he dont want their help he feel that they can do on his own without anyone there for him and it dont matter swits or spurs swits or spurs he will cry a match before he ask for him for anything and he was explaing this to montoguie and he was trying to help him see why that person was not there for him

The monolougue I have choosen is Romeo Act 1 scene 4.
"I fear too early for my mind misgives some consequence....."

In this act romeo is about to inter the house of capulet and is about to take some drugs. In this act Romeo talks about how his mind misgives spme consequence. He is trying to say that he does no longer care about what he does anymore. He has done so many things that his mind misgives any bad thing he does. He is no longer affraid of what the consequence is going to be. As he said in the monolouge
" I fear to early for my mind misgives some consequence, yet hanging in the stars shall bitterly begin his fearful date". In meaning what ever trouble he gets in shall bitterly begin his fearful date. This is what Romeo was trying to say in his monoluge.

  18. The monologue that I have picked to do is in Act 3 Scene 1. The person that is speaking is Mercutio. The person that Mercutio is speaking to is Romeo. The lines that are being spoken is not a soliloquy or an aside, it’s a monologue.
To be honest, I cannot connect with my selection because I have never been stabbed in my stomach before or a part of a fight when someone distracted and I got the worst end of the fight.
I can relate to the part where you are minding your own business and someone comes up to you and hit you and when you defend yourself by hitting the person back other people then attack just to help the person that started the fight. Because the fight is not a one on one then it is just like Mercutio, you get hit more times because of the interference from other people.
Another way I can relate is when you I am out on the basketball court and a guy from the other team is arguing with one of my teammates and I try to talk to my teammate and then the other guy hits my teammate while I am trying to calm my teammate down. I feel bad then because the other guy took advantage of the distraction and played dirty by getting in a punch. The good thing about on the court is that the referee will usually eject the other person from the game.

  19. See well this is jamaris & I know im a little late on this one but i stil remember. The part i did was act 1 Scene 4 Romeo speaking. See i cant relate to this piece because romeo was talking about how love has affected his life. And sooner or later to lead him to his tragic flaw of him & juliet dieing. I say i blame it on them i mean romeo could have saved himself instead of trying to be with juliet assuming she was dead but he didnt he decided to end his life when he didnt have to do that. I think this piece is a good example of not letting anyone dictate the life you have and you can make your own fate. See he made his own fate when he decided to take his own life when i personally think that was stupid and it was a sin. So no telling where both of them went they shouldve lived by there rules instead of playing the rules of love
